New York, NY – In its first statewide endorsement of the 2014 election cycle, the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York has announced support for Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who is seeking re-election in November. The labor organization, led by Gary LaBarbera, consists of local affiliates of 15 national and international unions representing 100,000 working men and women in New York City.

“For over three years Attorney General Schneiderman has fought tirelessly to protect middle class workers,” said Gary LaBarbera, President of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York. “He has aggressively prosecuted wage and hour violations to stop the race to the bottom in New York’s labor market, and recovered millions of dollars for cheated workers. The BCTC endorses his re-election for Attorney General because we know he will continue to fight for working families across this state.”

“I deeply appreciate the council’s endorsement and am proud to have the support of so many men and women who are integral to New York’s vibrant middle class,” said Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. “I will continue to fight every day to ensure the labor community has a strong and progressive Attorney General in their corner.”

Since taking office in January 2011, Attorney General Schneiderman’s Labor Bureau has collected over $16 million for over 10,000 workers across New York State. Recently he secured guilty pleas from the owners of a steel company for failing to pay prevailing wages to ironworkers on a public school construction project.
