On Wednesday, July 10, doctors and residents at Montefiore Medical Center, located in the Bronx in New York City, will hold a rally and voice their concerns regarding their many issues with their employer. As in many healthcare facilities across the nation, there is widespread understaffing, as well as a lack of funding that affects resources. The doctors are represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU). These doctors regularly work a shocking 80+ hour workweek, in order to attempt to serve the mainly immigrant and working-class communities of color that come to the hospital. They are calling on Montefiore to provide their first union contract in 40 years.
