Boeing workers, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751, began a strike on Sept. 13. The powerful union’s 32,000 machinists had previously rejected Boeing proposed contracts, and this will be the company’s fourth offer. Although Boeing has raised billions of dollars to keep the company afloat, the work stoppage has almost completely stopped the company’s airplane production. Workers late last month rejected the offer of a 35% increase in raises, up from 25% in September, and below the 40% the union sought initially. Now, the current offer is at 38%, and the union is recommending that its members take the deal.
