New York, NY – Attempting to halt unionization at two New York City facilities, Amazon violated federal labor law.
National Labor Relations Board Judge Benjamin Green on January 30, 2022 stated that Amazon violated federal labor law. The company illegally threatened to withhold wage increases and not improve benefits if workers elected a union. The company violated federal regulations as part of its efforts to resist unionization at two facilities in New York City.
NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo in an April 2022 memo stated that mandatory gatherings “inherently involve an unlawful threat that employees will be disciplined or suffer other reprisals if they exercise their protected right not to listen to such speech”.
“We need a house cleaning of anti-union decisions that have been around since the enactment of the Taft-Hartley Act” in 1947, said Amazon Labor Union’s lawyer, Seth Goldstein of Julien Mirer Singla & Goldstein.
The Amazon Labor Union’s organized one facility in Staten Island, New York, but workers at another plant chose to stick with Amazon.
