On September 14, 2022 – Local 802’s New School Jazz Faculty held a Rally for Respect along with other on-campus unions (UAW and Teamsters) on September 14th, 2022 at 12 noon at 63 Fifth Avenue. Although the New School had been known for its deep roots in human dignity – it is now an employer that has strayed far from its roots. The Rally for Respect on 9.14.22 focused on a major issue the school was founded on, the integrity of working people. The jazz faculty and other union members of UAW Local 7902 and Teamsters Local 1205 are demanding the New School bargain in good faith for new contracts. It’s time for union negotiations to take place and fair contracts to be implemented.
