A tentative deal between the American Federation of Musicians and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will bring unprecedented changes to the working lives of musicians. It addresses those also unprecedented changes that came with the powerhouse of technology that is AI, as well as made-for-streaming content. Now, the workers will be compensated with residuals for the latter, and protected against the malevolent encroachment of Artificial Intelligence into their employment. Tino Gagliardi, AFM International President and chief negotiator, said, “We have secured historic breakthroughs in streaming residuals, established critical guardrails against the misuse of AI, gained meaningful wage increases and other important gains.”
