Stress, hard work and lots of thinking create tension in the body, which can lead to chronic aches, tightness and constipation. Many people try and alleviate these symptoms with alcohol and sugar, which are actually counterproductive and sedate the body. Exercise is an ideal way of releasing a build-up of physical tension. Developing a regular exercise program to suit your particular body type and lifestyle will have numerous rewards. The Challenge is to find the type of exercise you enjoy most and then build into your life.
The human body is meant for movement. A wide variety of modern epidemics, from heart disease to diabetes to osteoporosis, are rooted in our sedentary lifestyles. Lifelong physical activity is crucial to optimum health, but running marathons is not required. No matter how much you try to make it fun, and no matter what the experts tell you about how great you will feel, when you first start regular aerobic exercise, you will probably dislike it. Developing this healthy living habit takes time and effort. When you first begin your workout routine it could be difficult. You must force yourself to stick to your routine during the beginning. A common pitfall is to forgo exercise on days when you feel tired and lethargic because you think you do not have enough energy for it. A secret, known to those who have become habitual exercisers, is that effort creates energy. Do not wait for energy to come when you are tired; create it by expending effort. You can easily prove to yourself that this principle works. Just try it.
What type of exercise works best for you?
Think about what you loved to do as a kid
Listen to your body
Know that movement is a lot like food. Once you understand how different types of movement nourish your body in different ways, you can put together a menu of activities to keep yourself in balance
What’s your personality type?
Pick an exercise that suits the person you are. if you like groups, perhaps you look into joining a team, fitness classes etc. If you prefer to be alone you can set up a in home work out routine with weights, or various work out DVD’s. Music for many plays a key role, set up music menus on your ipod that will inspire and motivate you.
When do you feel most energetic?
Whether you are a morning or night person, there is “no” right or wrong time to exercise.
You can make time for it once you realize it should be a priority in an overall program of preventive health maintenance and healthy living. Regular exercise will give you more energy and a greater sense of well-being and will help you work more efficiently. It will make you feel good both physically and mentally.
