New York, NY – AFSCME Local 372, the NYC Board of Education Employees Union, made its presence felt with victories across the city. In Brooklyn, Local 372 endorsed Ken Thompson for Brooklyn District Attorney. The union's political operation took an active part in the campaign that lead thompson to victory.
In Queens, Local 372 established a campaign office and endorsed labor leader Daneek Miller, President of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1056, in the 27th City Council District. The union made history by helping Daneek cross the finish line first.
In Manhattan, Local 372 endorsed Community Board member and public schools activist Helen Rosenthal in the competitive Upper West Side battle for Council District 6.
Additional victorious Council members endorsed by Local 372 included Ben Kallos (Council District 5), Laurie Cumbo ( Council District 35), Robert Cornegy (Council District 36), Darlene Mealy (Council District 41), Inez Barron (Council District 42) and Alan Maisel (Council District 46).
"We will no longer sit on the political sidelines when our members' benefits and pensions are being attacked by politicians who don't care about working families. This is just the beginning of Local 372's political empowerment. We will support candidates that will work hard to serve and improve the lives of working families and all New Yorkers", said Local 372 President Santos Crespo.
