As the holiday season is upon us, I want to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to you and your loved ones. This time of year is an opportunity to reflect on the strength of our community, the progress we’ve made together, and the shared values that unite us. I also want to thank our affiliates and Executive Board for all of your support this year.
This year has been one of significant victories for Long Island’s working families. Thanks to countless hours of advocacy, the New York State Legislature passed, and the Governor signed, several critical measures: the Retail Worker Safety Act, SUNY Project Labor Agreement, Tier 6 Reform, Automobile Warranty Reimbursement legislation, and the Extreme Temperature in Schools legislation. None of this would have been possible without the strength and unity of Long Island’s labor movement. Additionally, on Election Day, 72% of Suffolk County voters supported Proposal 2, passing the Suffolk County Water Quality Restoration Act. This hard-fought victory, achieved through years of dedicated work by our affiliates, will create thousands of good-paying, family-sustaining union jobs.
May this holiday season bring you peace, joy, and a well-deserved chance to rest and recharge. From all of us at the Long Island Federation of Labor, Happy Holidays and best wishes for a prosperous New Year!
In Solidarity,
John R. Durso
