9,600 RN’s in Southern Michigan have joined with the powerful Teamsters. They encompass workers at nine different hospitals. Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien didn’t mince words when he called out Corewell Health, the employer, for “waging one of the most expensive and aggressive union-busting campaigns we’ve ever seen.” During the pandemic, health care workers were praised, but since then, said Peter Finn, Director of the Teamsters Public Services Division, “[they have been] disrespected, [and] paid poverty wages,” among other unfair actions by their employer. Now, with the new union unit at Corewell, the Teamsters will represent nearly 50,000 essential health care workers across the country.”
