Boeing workers who are members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, overwhelmingly rejected a tentative contract offer on Sept. 8. The next step was a strike early morning Friday the 13th, bad luck for the company, which has been plagued by widely publicized failures and associated dangers of particular aircraft. Over 30,000 employees participated in the strike’s beginnings. As a result, production of most of the company’s aircraft is at a standstill. This is the first strike for the workers since 2008. IAM District 751 President Jon Holden gave a list of grievances, including Boeing’s failure to bargain in good faith, and unlawful surveillance. The workers say the proposed 25% wage increase doesn’t cover the cost of living. The union had years of give-backs to the company since 2008, and now they want their due.
