Teamsters Locals 804 and 808 have endorsed State Senator Jessica Ramos for mayor in the race that is only eight months away. They are now the first unions in New York City to do so. Reasons they give include her backing of legislation, bills and initiatives that specifically benefited workers, such as increasing the minimum wage, and the crucial Warehouse Worker Protection Act. UPS warehouse workers in Local 804 were direct recipients of the changes that came about because of her involvement. Ramos also pushed legislation to protect workers from extreme temperatures on the job that are only rising due to global warming. Chris Silvera, secretary treasurer of Local 808, said Ramos has always been loyal to the working class.
