A report by the Center for New York City Affairs, on wages, has been released, and its focus is on the gender pay gap. Widespread inequities have remained stagnant for over 20 years. Even in occupations that are female-dominated, such as home care, women, and especially women of color, receive lower wages than their male counterparts. Low-wage work remains the largest occupational category for city women. The report notes that “women workers of color remain overrepresented in low-paying occupations.”
