Four Representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives, two of them Republicans, have introduced legislation that would put a spotlight on corporations such as Amazon and hold them accountable for particular policies that affect its workers. Representatives Haley Stevens, (D-Mi), Donald Norcross (D-NJ), Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Mike Lawler (R-NY) have taken the bold step of introducing the Warehouse Worker Protection Act. It is aimed at abuses such as dangerous safety practices and abusive production quotas. Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien said that “arbitrary and unrealistic production quotas” have led to “sky-high injury rates,” and that it is time to “put workers’ safety first.”
