Lawmakers have re-introduced a bill, the Construction Justice Act, that was originally proposed last year. The bill targets real estate developers who build affordable housing with city funding. Under this law, the developers in this category would have to pay workers a wage and benefits package of at least $40 an hour. Laborers’ Local 79 is behind the bill, as is Mason Tenders District Council of Greater New York and Long Island, and it is sponsored by Council Member Carmen De La Rosa.
