A new report just published by Museums Moving Forward, an advocacy group, has found that art museum employees in the U.S. face a host of financial and professional challenges. Of the almost 2,000 staffers in the survey, 74% said that they could not cover the cost of living. That group included 29% in executive positions. Most workers need outside subsidies, such as help from family or inherited wealth. 68% said they had considered leaving the field. And on average, it takes 12 years before a museum worker gets a promotion.
