Workers at various chapters of the National Audubon Society have become increasingly frustrated after waiting a year and a half for a contract. Roughly 250 employees had voted overwhelmingly to unionize as The Bird Union under the auspices of the Communications Workers of America. Although there are ongoing talks at the bargaining table, it has been extremely fraught, and no one from corporate management has been present. Workers also say management has not recognized their contributions, and not addressed a host of serious issues including harassment, abuse, and racism on the job.
