New York, NY – Greg Hach, Air Force Veteran and a lawyer who has dedicated his firm to helping working people, announced on Aug. 15 that he will be running a primary challenge against Rep. George Santos (R – N.Y.) in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

Only weeks after the announcement, Hach received the endorsement of New York-based International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 30 and Local 94.

Local 30 members are the engineers and mechanics who maintain the critical facilities our region depends on. They operate power plants that sustain homes and businesses, power health care facilities, energize entertainment venues that boost our economies, maintain higher education facilities and support commercial, residential infrastructure.

Local 94 represents over 5,000 men and women responsible for the operation, maintenance, renovation and repair of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning and all other mechanical systems in public, private, residential and commercial buildings throughout New York City.

“Greg Hach is the best candidate to represent our district in Congress, hands down,” said William Lynn, Local 30 Business Manager, Financial Secretary, and International Union Operating Engineers Vice President.

“Greg is in this race for all of the right reasons and will be a force for families and workers in Washington. A man of impeccable character, Greg will represent us honorably and fight for his constituents each and every day. For these reasons, the men and women of IUOE Local 30 enthusiastically endorse Greg Hach’s candidacy for Congress,” Lynn continued.

Kuba Brown, Business Manager & Financial Secretary, IUOE Local 94 Operating Engineers, also released a statement on Hach’s behalf.

“Greg Hach will stand up for the hardworking families of Long Island and Queens just as he has stood up for our membership time and again,” said Brown. “Greg has been involved in the labor movement for most of his life. His advocacy and leadership on behalf of the labor force has been remarkable. He is of impeccable character and the ally we need in Washington. For these reasons and more, the men and women of IUOE Local 94 Operating Engineers extend their strong support and endorse Greg Hach’s campaign for Congress.”

Hach grew up in a strong union household and has represented the workers and families of unions in New York and across the country for the past 20 years at the law firm he co-founded, including for families of the victims of the attacks on September 11, 2001.

In the union tradition, his father, Michael Hach, joined IUOE Local 30 as a member in 1961. In 1968 he was hired as a union organizer and was later promoted to Business Representative, a position he held until his retirement in 2000. He also served on a number of committees including the Committee for Apprenticeship Standards for the International in Washington D.C. and he was Vice President of the Westchester-Putnam Counties AFL-CIO Central Labor Body.

Greg Hach was raised in Hicksville, Long Island. Upon graduating high school in the final years of the Cold War, he joined the United States Air Force. After basic military training and tech school, he was stationed at Iraklion Air Station in Crete, Greece. Hach was honorably discharged and returned home to Hicksville, where he commuted to John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City to earn his degree. When he graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Hach earned a scholarship to Ohio Northern University’s Petit College of Law and graduated in 1999.

Soon after Hach joined the New York Bar Association and began assisting the very people whom he had known throughout his whole life: the building trades workers who suffered injuries or death on the job as a result of exposure to asbestos products.

Hach’s father was one of those very people who suffered an asbestos-related disease, reaffirming his focus to fight for the rights of those who suffered at the hands of corporations that hid the dangerous effects of asbestos for decades while hundreds of thousands suffered and died as a result.

After working as an attorney for a few years and realizing that there were ways that he could offer better services to affected clients, Hach partnered with Michael Rose and together they founded Hach & Rose, LLP.

They started the firm months after the terrorist attacks on America and New York on September 11, 2001. Despite their limited resources, they committed to represent victims of the terrorist attacks at no cost. At the time, Hach was shocked to learn that large firms were charging full fees on the cases brought before the 9-11 Victim’s Compensation Fund.

Hach’s campaign will focus on core issues affecting the lives of NY-3 residents, including crime, economic uncertainty and inflation, immigration, and national security.
