On Friday, Aug. 25, United Auto Workers voted to authorize a strike. And one of the things they are demanding is a four-day work week. Not only that, but they want that major change to be accompanied by pay for a 5-day week. The big three automakers, General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, are currently posting billions in profits, with sales steady. Harry Katz, professor of labor relations at Cornell, says all those recent profits are emboldening the UAW to make such a life-changing demand.
