In 2013, FDNY EMS filed suit against the city for unpaid wages. In 2019, a jury decided that the city had indeed violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay EMS employees for work done before and after their scheduled shifts. Now, a federal appeals court has upheld the jury’s verdict, which awarded almost $18 million to over 2,500 current and former workers. The judges’ decision also denied the city’s request for a new trial.
