Previously unreported details on wage theft in New York State have come to light. Federal and state investigators have found that between 2017 through 2021, over $203 million was stolen from workers. The number of workers affected was approximately 127,000. And the U.S. Department of Labor estimates that even these appalling figures are almost certainly a significant undercount. In 2014, for instance, it estimated that state employers stole up to $1 billion from their workers each year.
