On August 16, Gov. Hochul signed into law a major win for construction workers. The Roadway Quality Assurance Act ensures that these workers’ wages are fair and guards against financial exploitation. A host of new regulations regarding street excavation or opening are now in place. Utility company contractors and subcontractors must pay the prevailing wage, when the work requires a permit. The law extends to all of New York State. Gary LaBarbera, President, NYS Building & Construction Trades Council thanked Gov. Hochul and said the law would continue to create middle-class jobs, as well as protect the public safety by ensuring the roadway projects would “utilize a highly trained and skilled workforce.”
