The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1181, is currently negotiating contracts with a number of private bus companies that provide school bus service in NYC. Now, Local 1181 members have voted to authorize a strike, potentially bringing major disruptions to transit for students when the school year begins in September. Strikes were approved against Pioneer Transit, Consolidated Bus Transit, Inc., Logan Bus Company, and New York City School Bus Umbrella Services. Both the Department of Education (DOE) and the Local are keeping mum regarding details of the negotiations, but the DOE has outlined some contingency plans in case the strikes do go forward.
