The Economic Policy Institute has reported that US employers spend an estimated $340 million each year to fight against unionization, hiring union avoidance consultants. And in 41.5% of all union elections, employers are charged with violating federal labor law. This despite the fact that support for labor unions is the highest it has been since 1965, with 71% of Americans approving of unions, according to a Gallup poll. At the same time, the push for unionization at corporations such as Starbucks, Amazon, Apple, Trader Joe’s, REI and Chipotle continues to grow despite the opposition.
