The Economic Policy Institute has released new data showing that the number of U.S. workers represented by a union was more than 16 million in 2022. That is an increase of 200,000 from 2021. However, because nonunion jobs were added at a faster rate than union jobs, the share of workers represented by a union declined from 11.6% to 11.3%. Overall, the current unionization rate is well under half the rate of what it was about 40 years ago.
