“The Prom” has nothing to do with teenagers in High School but middle aged folks. The Prom features
Broadway veterans who are at the top of their game in this entertaining musical comedy.
Casey Nicholaw adeptly directs and choreographs the show which features a book by Chad Begueln (who also wrote the lyrics) and Bob Martin, both Tony award winners, and the music by Matthew Sklar.
The stars are Tony award winner Beth Leavel, and Tony nominees Christopher Sieber, and Brooks Ashmanskas.
The opening scene is the actors of a Broadway flop deciding that they need a good cause to redeem themselves. They settle on an issue where a High School senior, in a small Indiana town, is not allowed to bring her girlfriend to the Prom. Chaos ensures when the four actors swoop in on the town with the hope of changing the minds of the conservative leaders of the community.
Casey Nicholaw’s direction provides impeccable comic timing as well as the needed pathos. He does not miss a beat and ties this entertaining musical together.
This is a rousing as well as intimate musical comedy which will engage the audience.
