Heist! is a new musical comedy that just completed a limited run at the Players Theatre in Greenwich Village. Like the classic musical Kiss Me Kate, it’s a story of a play within a play—about a group of thieves who attempt a heist of a valuable necklace by taking roles in a new Broadway production, the revival of a classic musical.

Director James Will McBride adeptly brings the show to life in the small venue. The book and lyrics, by Alex Koceja, and the music, by Michael Uselmann, are quite tuneful and engaging.

The young cast, which includes some recent graduates of New York University, demonstrated a sound stage presence. Starring are Alec Irion as Jack, the main protagonist, and Blair Medina, as his love interest, Patricia. Other noteworthy cast members are James Cella, Claire Leyden, Patricia Sabulus, and Chris Bober. Their youthfulness and ability bring energy and soul to a show that completely entertains the audience.

If you are interested in a show that brings the action up close and is engaging and not expensive, look for Heist! when is comes around again.
