Rochester, NY – With Negotiations breaking down between 1199SEIU and Anthony L. Jordan Health Center over 100 union members demonstrated in from of the health center on Thursday March 29th. Although the center has increased their earnings substantially, management is insisting on a one year wage freeze for the employees. The current collective bargaining agreement expired December 31, 2017, and has been extended while the talks continue. The center is located at 82 Holland Street at Hudson Avenue in Rochester.
Larry Knox of 1199 said “We’re here with our members, letting management know that we want a fair contract.” We are very disappointed that management is reneging on an agreement we thought acceptable to both parties, continued the 1199 representative. We voted ten days ago to picket Anthony L. Jordan Health Center to let the community know that the center disrespects the people that take care of the patients, said Knox.
In addition to the risk posed to employee health care by the employer’s current position, employees are also concerned about the fairness of executive compensation. Based on the Center’s tax filings, its CEO received a total increase in compensation of 69.3% for the period 2013 – 2016, while employees received increases totaling 7.2%.
