LaborPress is proud to endorse Lew Fidler for New York State Senate in the 27th District, representing South Brooklyn neighborhoods from Midwood to Sheepshead Bay.
Fidler has proudly served these neighborhoods since he was elected to the New York City Council in 2002. He has always taken strong, independent stands for both fiscal responsibility and workers rights. His campaign for Senate has earned endorsements from U.S. Senator Charles Schumer and numerous other elected officials.
The special election is just a few weeks away, on March 20. Fidler, a Democrat, will run in the contest to replace N.Y. Senator Carl Kruger, who resigned in disgrace after pleading guilty to bribery in December.
Fidler’s policies have sometimes put him in direct conflict with other powers in City government. “The Mayor and I have had a rocky relationship to say the least,” Fidler told LaborPress. For more than eight years, Fidler opposed a proposal to run “Robotrains,” with only one conductor, on the New York City subway system, starting on L train line. The proposal was a clear violation of the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s contract with the transit unions, he said. “The proposal blindly put public safety at risk.”
