Tax Cap Will Cripple Local Governments

The proposed property tax cap will cripple the ability of local governments to provide essential services and will necessitate layoffs for hard working New Yorkers. All the while, it will do nothing to lower property taxes.
New Yorkers who rely on county, city and school district services can expect to see a quick and dramatic loss of vital assistance, along with drastic increases in user fees. Clearly, we know this will force cuts in education, leading to layoffs, larger class sizes and a reduction of services to the most vulnerable students.
The New York Times said it best in its recent editorial "Reject the Tax Cap," calling the cap "a cheap political tool… that will only further devastate communities."
