Hot 97’s Summer Jam Sunday, June 5th, 2011
June 1, 2011
Dear Friend:
For nearly two decades now Hot 97’s Summer Jam continues to be the largest and longest running concert in the world serving over 55,000 fans every year. In recognition of this historic event on Sunday, June 5th, 2011 Hot 97 Radio, the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council and the Hip-Hop Community will petition the New Jersey Government to officially declare the site in and around the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ as “District 97” the first Sunday of June every year. Since 1993 the venue that hosts the event has been transformed into “District 97” so finally this year the Hip-Hop Community is seeking to “politically recognize” the annual transition.
It is our intent to use the leverage of Hot 97, the #1 Hip-Hop Radio Station in the world, and the creation of District 97 to highlight the positive aspects of the Hip-Hop Culture while addressing issues such as education, employment, substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, Childcare and gun and gang violence prevention.
To help us make history and accomplish this monumental task we are soliciting your support to have you and/or your students sign up to become a “District 97 Ambassador” or Petition Drive Coordinator. Ambassadors will carry both the adult and the 17 and under petitions and have an opportunity to win tickets to Summer Jam. Coordinators can also carry petitions and will help ensure the success of the Petition Drive receiving 2 tickets for their services. With your collective support we will be able to secure at least 50,000 signatures for the petition to create “District 97”. In addition, there will be a host of future opportunities to work with artists, receive scholarships for college and obtain employment for those that sign up for the project. We want to thank you in advance for your anticipated support and look forward to working with you to use the positive force of Hip-Hop to make a difference in our community. We only have a few weeks to pull this off so I will reach out to you to work out the details. For info please call me at 917-567-9294 or email me at RandyF@hhsyc.org.
Respectfully,
Randy Fisher
