New York, NY – Donald Trump has said and done a lot of things in his campaign for President that deserve condemnation. But I was surprised when Ted Cruz attacked him for having "New York values." This wasn't just an attack on The Donald – it was an attack on the 8.4 million men and women I'm proud to represent as Mayor.
Here's what Ted Cruz doesn't understand about us: we are proud of our New York values. They start with celebrating our diversity, taking care of each other, and working to make New York a fairer city for all of our citizens.
With your support we made history in 2013. Since then I've been working hard to stand up for New York values every day. We created universal pre-K for every eligible child in the City, expanded after school and passed the first ever rent freeze for our tenants. We made paid sick leave the law, so if a loved one falls ill, you can take care of them without having to worry about losing your job. And we're fighting against inequality by standing up for a $15 minimum wage and paid family leave for our workforce. We're doing all of this while growing our economy and adding jobs – there are more people working in NYC today than at any other time in our City's history.
