UNITE HERE Launches GoFundMe Campaign to Help Casino Strikers

Atlantic City , NJ – UNITE HERE Local 54 has launched a GoFundMe account to raise money for striking workers at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort who are having problems paying rent, mortgage, utility, and medical bills.  To donate, go to

“These women and men have been on strike for over a month to defend middle-class jobs,” said Local 54 financial secretary-treasurer Donna Decaprio. “People ask all the time how they can support the strikers. This GoFundMe campaign is one way to do that.” The appeal, run through the Local 54 Hardship Fund, says it will assist strikers “like Patti, who was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before Carl Icahn took away her health benefits.” Icahn, the billionaire who bought the Taj Mahal after Donald Trump drove it into bankruptcy, has filed notice that he plans to close the casino Oct. 10 and lay off the more than 1,000 strikers.
