NEW YORK, NY – UFA President Gerard Fitzgerald made the following comments on the death of Retired Lieutenant Edward T. Meehan from 9-11-related cancers:
“On behalf of the entire Uniformed Firefighters Association, I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Rt. Lt. Edward T. Meehan, Ladder 22, due to 9/11-related illness. Tomorrow we will lay to rest a fearless leader who embodied everything that makes the FDNY truly, ‘The Bravest.’

His death marks the fifth WTC passing this year and is another tragic reminder that more than 16 years after the 9/11 attacks, first responders continue to suffer from illness and cancer as a result of their selflessness during the immediate rescue and recovery efforts.”
