Trucker Nearly Hits Momentive Striker

Waterford, NY – A truck driver who nearly hit a striking worker at the Momentive Performance Materials plant was arrested for reckless driving Dec. 30, Saratoga County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies said workers picketing outside the caulks-and-adhesives plant had complained that Igor P. Semenyaka, 46, of West Hartford, Conn., had driven recklessly at them in an 18-wheel tractor-trailer on his way out after making a delivery. Semenyaka was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, and was issued an appearance ticket. The about 700 workers at Momentive, members of IUE CWA Local 359, have been on strike since Nov. 2, refusing to accept a contract they say would drastically raise workers’ health-care costs and eliminate all benefits for future retirees.
