AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka says the text of the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement shows that the AFL-CIO’s policy recommendations and those of its trade reform allies were largely ignored. The AFL-CIO says the labor enforcement provisions are still inadequate.

Trumka says the AFL-CIO will examine the text of the deal line by line in coming days. Trumka says what is known so far shows the threats in the agreement outweigh the benefits. he says the AFL-CIO will work with its allies to defeat the TPP. Public Citizen Global Trade Watch’s Lori Wallach says “the text shows TPP would offshore more American jobs, lower our wages, flood us with unsafe imported food and expose our laws to attack in foreign tribunals.” The United Steel Workers say the TPP is "a dagger twisting in the heart of American manufacturing."
