Shopping for healthcare – is it really that hard?

No one can debate that if we take control of our own healthcare we can control costs better.  Knowing that the cost of an MRI can vary between freestanding sites and outpatient departments of hospitals by as much as 3X yet the scan is taken on the same machine and read by the same radiologist – still puzzles me as to why we aren’t searching out the lower cost provider.

Is the process simple?  Once engaged it is not – but getting people engaged – getting people to ask the right questions whether it is around the benefits of generic drug utilization, where you get dialysis rendered or where you get your MRI, PET or CAT scan.  There is so much cost wasted by overpaying for commoditized services and clearly that waste is driving the cost trends we see today.

Not a new concept but the belief that getting the right care at the right time in the right place still holds true in so many areas of healthcare.

At One Call we are constantly challenging ourselves to help further the message of getting care rendered in the right place.  Take a look at how “Matt” navigates the healthcare delivery system and finds himself being helped into a more cost effective site for getting his MRI done.

Simple and easy – we are acting as an advocate in helping Matt find the more cost effective and convenient site for getting his MRI done.

We all want to get the right care, at the right time in the right place but navigating the healthcare system is challenging – having an advocate to help you makes all the difference.
