Buffalo, NY -  Following a report in The Buffalo News that stated a local Union was tipping off Federal Agents to any Undocumented Immigrants employed on constructions sites across Western New York, the AFL-CIO Area Labor Federation and Buffalo AFL-CIO Council has issued a formal statement that “resoundingly rejects any action that blames Immigrant and Undocumented Workers for undercutting the living standards of the American Working Class.”

In response to The Buffalo News Story, which carried the headline: Union Tips Off Border Patrol In Immigration Crackdown (http://buffalonews.com/2017/03/09/ice-border-patrol-not-ones-seeking-removal-undocumented-workers/), the presidents of the Western New York AFL-CIO Area Labor Federation (WNYALF) the Buffalo AFL-CIO Central Labor Council released the following statement:

The Western New York AFL-CIO Area Labor Federation and the Buffalo Central Labor Council AFL-CIO resoundingly reject any action that blames Immigrant and Undocumented Workers for undercutting the living standards of the American Working Class.  The Labor Movement stands with People of Color, Immigrants and any Worker who is targeted with the threat of deportation and detention.  Every worker in our country has rights and we want each Worker to be able to exercise those rights, regardless of Immigration Status.

Deportation tears workplaces and families apart.  When new Immigrants muster the courage to speak out about health and safety concerns or negotiate for fair compensation, employers are able to retaliate in ways that threaten deportation.
