20 Veterans commit suicide each day in the United States. This is unforgivable. Cliff Nolan of Teamsters Joint Council 73 and a good friend, Judy Isaacson Schaffer were angry and decided to do something about it. They founded Heroes to Heroes, an organization that provides a spiritual healing and peer support program for Combat Veterans of all conflicts that have attempted suicide or are on a path to doing so.

Heroes to Heroes takes teams of 10-14 Veterans on a ten day journey to Israel, the Holy Land. They visit holy and historical sites, Veterans’ programs, and do volunteer work. They travel with Israeli counterparts and work together to support one another through this emotional journey and beyond. Participants are required to stay in touch with their teammates for a minimum of one year.

“At Heroes to Heroes we believe that Faith plays a crucial role in a person’s desire to live. Our mission is to help our Veterans find the Faith they need to want to live”, stated Schaffer. “Allowing them to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, get baptized in the River Jordan, and plant trees is life affirming and cleansing. 131 Veterans have taken part in our program and the results are remarkable.

Heroes to Heroes needs your support. Their annual golf outing is taking place on Thursday, June 15th at St. Andrews Golf Club in Westchester, NY. Please join us for golf, dinner, and/or as a sponsor.  For more information, go to or call 201.851.2409
