Racine, WI - Union ironworker Randy Bryce announced June 18 that he was running to unseat House Speaker Paul Ryan in his south-of-Milwaukee district.

Bryce, a member of Ironworkers Local 8 and former member of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council board of directors, is an Army veteran and single father. He’s emphasizing health care, releasing a 2½-minute online ad that segues from Ryan celebrating the House bill to eviscerate Obamacare into his mother saying her multiple sclerosis feels “like hot knives going through” and that she needs 20 different medications for it. “This system is extremely flawed,” Bryce says. “I work every day so that me and my son have insurance.” “Let's trade places,” he concludes. “Paul Ryan, you can come work the iron and I'll go to D.C.” However, the district has not sent a Democrat to Congress since 1992, and Bryce lost a race for the state Senate in 2014. “Donald Trump won an area in Kenosha that had traditionally been Democratic, but people are waking up and they’re seeing that it was all talk,” he told the New Republic. “They have buyer’s remorse now. I’m a working person, I don’t play one in a video.” Read more
