Teamsters Certified at LI School-Bus Company

Medford, NY - The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was certified as the bargaining representative for more than 300 workers at a Long Island school-bus company Dec. 21, after the National Labor Relations Board dismissed the employer’s challenge to the results of a union election in February.

United Airlines Agrees to Improve Safety for Baggage Handlers

Newark, NJ - The U.S. Department of Labor Dec. 27 announced that it had reached what it called a “precedent-setting agreement” agreement with United Airlines to settle a lawsuit over hazardous conditions in its baggage-handling operation at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Lake Placid, FL - In the last two years, at least 38 migrant farmworkers have been killed and more than 200 injured in accidents involving vehicles taking them to or from work, according to an Associated Press report released Dec. 22.

Albany, NY - The New York State Department of Labor has ruled that a former Uber driver was a company employee and thus eligible to collect unemployment-compensation benefits, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance announced Dec. 22.

Pittsburgh Bus Drivers Win 11% Raise Over Four Years

Pittsburg, PA - The Pittsburgh area’s about 2,200 bus drivers, mechanics, and first-line transit supervisors will get an 11.25% pay increase over the next four years, under a contract ratified by their union Dec. 18 and approved by the Port Authority of Allegheny County Dec. 20.
