New York, NY – SAG-AFTRA has promoted Jeffrey Bennett to New York Executive Director effective January 1, 2016. Bennett will oversee all administrative functions of the New York office.
Bennett is currently chief deputy general counsel for SAG-AFTRA responsible for legal and government affairs. His role in the organization has included oversight of legal matters, directing political strategy, and public policy advocacy. Bennett began work at the union in 2001. His responsibilities often focused on contract enforcement and policy advocacy. As deputy general counsel he played a pivotal role in SAG's landmark film foreclosure project where the union was able to gain payment of uncollected arbitration awards. Jeffrey brings with him a deep knowledge of SAG-AFTRA contracts, policy advocacy, and the New York Local and its diverse membership. He is well equipped to oversee our local's day-to-day business and, on behalf of the New York Local Board and membership, I welcome him as our new executive director," said SAG-AFTRA New York Local President Mike Hodge in a statement. SAG-AFTRA represents over 160,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, and other media professionals.
