Review of “The Cherry Orchard” A Roundabout Theater Production at the American Airlines Theater

The “Cherry Orchard” is presented by the Roundabout Theater Company is an modern adaptation of Anton Chekov’s monumental work. ; This production is reworked by Stephen Karam who is the author of the award winning play “the Humans”.

Under the guidance of Director Simon Godwin this show about Russia which is on the brink of revolution at the beginning of the 20 th century does not hold the interest of the audience. In effect “The Cherry Orchard” does not blossom.

The story line is concerned with how the family, whose fortune has been compromised and how they can save their estate. The siblings of the estate scion played by Diane Lane and John Glover try to come up with a plan to save the estate. Even though the cherry orchard is in bloom the fortunes of the family are in
The ensemble cast includes a wonderful performance by Joel Grey as the lifelong servant and Harold Perrineau as the businessman who develops a scheme to preserve the family’s fortune. Also starring in this show is Tony award winner Chuck Cooper and Celia Keenan-Bolger. .
