Pittsburgh, PA – According to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, pipelines are the safest way to transport energy resources.
This fact is critical as Pennsylvania considers how to take advantage of the vast energy resources of the Marcellus and Utica shale formations.
Another critical fact is that using local trades on pipeline infrastructure projects like Mariner East 2 ensures that the most qualified, best trained professionals are hired to safely build pipelines. It also ensures that the pipeline will meet and exceed state and federal regulations.
Without the shale gas industry, the International Union of Operating Engineers would have anywhere between 10 percent to 20 percent higher unemployment with just our Local 66. The potential is much greater.
Our infrastructure is grossly inadequate to meet current demand. Pennsylvania must make the necessary investments in projects like Mariner East 2, which will provide a critical link from the gas fields in western Pennsylvania to the processing facilities in southeastern Pennsylvania.
We firmly believe that large-scale infrastructure projects like the Mariner East 2 pipeline are critical to continued growth, and the safest way to harness our energy resources for our workers and communities.
