The New York State AFL-CIO announced the endorsement of Tom DiNapoli for reelection as New York State Comptroller.  The endorsement took place at the State Federation’s 2014 Committee on Political Education (COPE) Convention August 18th.

As sole trustee of the state pension system, Comptroller DiNapoli has effectively led the fund to record levels. These results ensure the retirement security of public employees. The Comptroller’s investments in New York businesses helps create private sector jobs in NYS. As New York’s fiscal watchdog, the Comptroller shines a spotlight on waste in programs such as Industrial Development Agencies, where it is all too common for corporations to take public money but fail to produce promised jobs.

“Comptroller DiNapoli understands that working men and women are the backbone of this state, and that our economy rises and falls as they do,” said Mario Cilento, President of the New York State AFL-CIO.  “From his staunch defense of the defined benefit pension system to his efforts to safeguard their hard-earned tax dollars, no one does more to protect working people than Comptroller DiNapoli.  We are proud to endorse Tom DiNapoli and will coordinate get-out-the-vote efforts throughout the state to ensure that the Comptroller is reelected.”

"I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO and proud to have the support of the hard-working union men and women of this state," said Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. "As your Comptroller, I will continue to champion the issues that matter to our middle-class, including strengthening our pension fund and protecting taxpayer dollars from waste and fraud.
