New York, NY- Twenty eight thousand university workers in New York will get wage hikes thanks to Governor Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo says he's using executive action powers to raise the state university minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Governor Cuomo says New York residents pay $6800 in extra taxes to subsidize minimum wage workers at companies like McDonald's because those workers are paid so little they qualify for public assistance. He says In new York state that corporate free ride is over as he continues to back the Fight For $15 movement.

[Governor Andrew Cuomo]: "Well I'm gettin' out of the hamburger business. Let McDonald's pay for their own workers! Let the fast food workers have a decent wage! Because we are done being abused as a workforce so we can subsidize the richest corporations in this country! That's not gonna happen."

The order includes students on work-study programs. Last year Cuomo convened a state wage board to raise fast food wages and also raised the wages on 10,000 New York state employees. To hear the audio click the following link labor
