More than 300 bus drivers and mechanics in Milwaukee and its suburbs signed a petition submitted to county supervisors Dec. 2 demanding improved security on the job.
“When passengers create a disturbance on the bus, security needs to remove the person from the bus,” it said. While assaults on drivers have fallen by more than half since protective shields were installed in 2010, many incidents are not reported, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 998 President James Macon told the Milwaukee County Board.
