MedReview Supports Education in the Philippines

Children in the Philippines will have a chance at a better life, thanks to contributions made at the first annual HRM Children’s Foundation Fund raising Breakfast, held March 22 in New York City.

The breakfast raised money to support indigent children in the province of Cebu in the Philippines, providing a safe home and food for young students in a small Philippine village. Most assistance organizations work in the large cities, even though poverty is also very strong in rural areas, said Helen Mutchler, founder of the HRM Children’s Foundation.

Mutchler is also the executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of NYCHSRO MedReview, Inc., which donated the rooms where the fundraiser was held and sponsored the breakfast. MedReview is a leading medical claims auditing firm with clients including several large union benefit plans.

Mutchler grew up in the Philippines, members of her family still live in Cebu province. She began the work of the HRM Foundation when she purchased a modest home for a few young students using her own funds. At the fundraiser, dozens of photographs showed Philippine children who have been helped already, though many more children in the area still suffer from malnourishment and insufficient housing. “They experience hunger daily and consider it part of their lives,” said Mutchler.

To help, forty busy New Yorkers contributed $250 each. They enjoyed their breakfast and a brief presentation on the work of the foundation. As the sun rose over the Brooklyn Bridge, two chefs made fresh omelets and served Belgian waffles, in addition to fresh fruit, bagels, juice and coffee.

“I know that we will be back for years to come,” said guest speaker Bill de Blasio, public advocate for New York City.
