Letter to the Editor – Don't Let Albany Compromise Air Quality

March 24, 2011
By NYLCV

One of last year's biggest environmental victories was a new law that phases out the dirtiest grade of home heating oil, But that victory may be short lived.
The State Senate has passed a budget proposal that delays the implementation of the law from 2012 to 2014.

That would mean two more years of unhealthy air, acid rain and smog worsening the incidence and severity of asthma conditions and increasing New Yorkers' risk of cancer, heart and lung disease and even premature death.

So far, the Assembly has resisted the change, but this issue is too important to leave to chance or backroom negotiations. Please tell your legislators today not to approve any budget resolution that endangers the air we breathe!
