John Catsimatidis, the successful businessman and independent Republican candidate for mayor, was endorsed by State Senator Andrew J. Lanza (SD-24). Lanza, a Staten Island Republican made the endorsement at an afternoon news conference Friday May 17, 2013.

Senator Andrew Lanza said, "I am proud to endorse John Catsimatidis for Mayor of New York City. John Catsimatidis has lived the American Dream; he is a self-made man with the skills and vision needed to lead New York City. Over the past two decades New Yorkers and Staten Islanders have seen vast improvements in the way our city operates. John Catsimatidis will keep New York City on track and moving forward; he is a proven job creator who will work to grow New York's economy and work to create the good paying jobs we need. John will fight to keep Staten Island streets safe and he'll always stand-up for our forgotten middle class."

John Catsimatidis said, "I want to thank Senator Lanza for his kind words and heartfelt endorsement. We will work together to keep Staten Island and our city moving forward while fighting for the hope and opportunities that all New Yorkers deserve."
